BMW Recently Introduced the 2019 BMW i8 Roadster and 2019 BMW i8 Coupe

December 5th, 2017 by

In late November, BMW revealed the company's first-ever BMW i8 Roadster, joining with the i8 coupe to present the new benchmark for sustainable driving: BMW eDrive technology. With the i8 Roadster, you'll be able to enjoy nearly silent driving with zero CO2 and enjoy the ultimate in open-air driving.

Both i8 models boast optimized eDrive technology that produces more power than ever, creating a combined total output of 369 horsepower. Hybrid-specific all-wheel drive allows a combustion engine to power the rear wheels while an electric motor drives the front wheels, allowing each i8 vehicle to register a 0-60 mph time of fewer than 4.5 seconds.

The lithium-ion battery is specific to the i8 and offers much greater energy capacity, with gross energy capacity having increased from 7.1 kWh to 11.6 kWh and battery cell capacity growing from 20- to 34-ampere hours. This extra energy gives the electric motor a boost in peak output, now offering 141 horsepower and a maximum torque of 184 pound-feet. This increased battery capacity also allows for a greater all-electric driving range, as well as the ability to reach 65 mph solely on the electric motor's power.

At BMW of Annapolis, we're impressed with the advancements BMW has made with the new i8, and we look forward to getting firsthand experience with them next year.

Our BMW showroom at 31 Old Mill Bottom Road proudly serves drivers from the Annapolis, Highland Beach and Hillsmere Shores areas.
