BMW Concept 8 Series Makes Global Debut
Last month, BMW unveiled the concept 8 Series at the Villa d'Este Concours in Italy. While this stunner is technically a concept, the finished design should be quite similar to what was shown at Lake Como, with slight exterior changes made to ensure safety standards.
From first impressions, the 8 Series is a beauty. Laser headlights frame the iconic kidney grille as a long hood line flowing roofline and rear fender flares give off a sporty, yet elegant appearance. All of this sits on 21-inch wheels, which we sincerely hope will be available as an option on the finished production versions.
Inside, you'll find a squared-off steering wheel, digital instrument cluster and two-tone leather and microsuede seating with contrasting stitching. BMW's next-generation iDrive makes its debut in the Concept 8 Series, with a rotary controller made of Swarovski crystal adding more than a touch of luxury.
It's rumored that the 8 Series will feature a standard turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, and that the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 that's currently offered in the 750i will be an optional upgrade. An eight-speed automatic transmission will come standard, with available xDrive all-wheel-drive system offered as an option.
When the 8 Series is offered for sale in 2018, it is expected to be available in three models: a two-door coupe, a four-door Gran Coupe and a cabriolet.
