2017 BMW 5 Series Receives Safety Award

June 6th, 2017 by

Last month, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that the 2017 BMW 5 Series had been named a "Top Safety Pick +." This award honors BMW for continuing its long-established commitment to class-leading safety.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series earned the award thanks to how it performed in five crash tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints, an optional front crash prevention system that earned a "Superior" rating and headlights that received a "Good" rating.
The seventh generation 5 Series drew particular praise for its structure and body design, which the IIHS notes help boost the vehicle's performance in the small overlap front crash test. In fact, test results show that the driver's space is at low risk of significant injury in a real-world crash due to little intrusion at the footrest. Also, the 5 Series earned a "Superior" rating in front crash prevention when it is equipped with available Frontal Collision Warning with either City Collision Mitigation or with Extended Collision Mitigation.

Featuring standard safety features such as Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Dry Assist, BMW Assist eCall, Cornering Brake Control, BMW TeleService and Dynamic Traction Control, this latest generation BMW 5 Series is the most innovative iteration to date.
