BMW and Mercedes-Benz are luxury brands that offer powerful, stylish, and feature-rich automobiles. Because these manufacturers have impressive vehicle lineups, you may be wondering which one has the right car for you.

The team at BMW of Annapolis will help answer that question with this BMW vs. Mercedes comparison. Learn about the history, selection, and dependability of these two luxury brands. Then, contact our dealership near Annapolis, Highland Beach, and Hillsmere Shores, MD, if you have any questions.

BMW Engine Specs

The History of BMW & Mercedes-Benz

BMW is a German manufacturer founded in 1916. It began as a manufacturer for aircraft engines but quickly switched to luxury vehicles and motorcycles.

Today, the brand is one of the largest producers of motor vehicles worldwide, having made well over 2.2 million automobiles. Plus, it’s had a significant impact on the motorsport industry, specifically with touring vehicles, Formula 1 automobiles, and other sports cars.

Mercedes-Benz is also a German brand. However, it was founded in 1926—a good decade after BMW came onto the scene. They’ve sold a wide variety of vehicles in the past, including vans, trucks, and buses. Like BMW, Mercedes-Benz is no stranger to the motorsport industry.

Vehicle Selection

Today, you’ll find a nice variety of cars from BMW and Mercedes-Benz that cater to different lifestyles. However, you may have an easier time finding your ideal ride with BMW.

That’s because they have tons to choose from. The current lineup offers a variety of sedans, coupes, convertibles, and SUVs. Plus, BMW’s M models and Z4 Roadster exemplify the “Ultimate Driving Machine” motto that the brand is known for.

BMW also has several hybrid models along with two all-electric cars: the i3 and i8. These vehicles can go the distance while churning out top-notch acceleration on battery power alone.

Mercedes-Benz has hybrids, too, but you’ll only find one electric model within their lineup.

BMW Warranty

BMW vs Mercedes-Benz Warranties

Whether you decide to purchase a BMW or Mercedes model, you can feel good knowing you’ll be covered for select maintenance or unexpected repairs. However, BMW’s program offers a little more peace of mind.

With a new BMW, you’ll get a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty. A new Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, only comes with a 2-year/50,000-mile limited warranty. If you’d like to extend that coverage, both brands do offer extended warranty options.

BMW has three extended service contracts to choose from: Platinum, Gold, and Powertrain Plus. When you combine one of these plans with the original warranty, you can have your car covered for up to seven years and 100,000 miles.

Mercedes-Benz offers multiple extended coverage plans too. However, they’re only good for up to six years when combined with the original warranty plan.

Which Luxury Brand Is Right for You?

These two German luxury brands have lots to offer drivers like yourself throughout Annapolis, Highland Beach, and Hillsmere Shores, Maryland. However, BMW has a more varied vehicle selection and better warranty coverage options over Mercedes-Benz.
