BMW i Vision Dynamics Gives a Glimpse at BMW's EV Future
With the presentation of the BMW i Vision Dynamics Concept, the company continues to progress with its plans to offer pure electric power as a viable option in its vehicle lineup. The four door Gran Coupe boasts a driving range of 373 miles, and with a top speed of 120 mph is able to deliver a 0-60 mph time of around 4.0 seconds.
While BMW hasn't divulged many details of the vehicle's electric motors or battery pack besides releasing those estimated speed and range numbers, experts think that the key takeaway from the show car is found in the updated styling — since that gives a clear direction as to the future design direction of BMW's Gran Coupe series.
The i Vision Dynamics Concept exhibits a clean silhouette, with evolved visions of classic BMW design elements. Featuring a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a flowing roofline, the vehicle cleverly updates the classic BMW twin kidney grille by adding sensors that turn the grille into an intelligent surface that gathers data that is critical for the vehicle's semi-autonomous operation.
In a press release, Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "At the BMW Group, the future of electric mobility has already arrived. We have more electrified vehicles on the road than any established competitor and are committed to expanding our activities…by 2025 we will be offering 25 models with an electrified drive system, of which 12 will be pure electric."
