First introduced at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car has been a big hit. The only problem? It's not yet available to drivers in the greater Annapolis area yet. That's because it was introduced at the show as a concept. That means that there's still quite a bit of work to be done before you'll find it at BMW of Annapolis.

And for a while, we were beginning to think that work wasn't getting done. BMW more or less went dark on anything concerning the BMW i8 concept after the show, and we've been eager for more info ever since... Until now, that is.

Recently, the BMW i8 was spotted on a winter test track, doing what it does best. One thing to note, though, is that this wasn't the same i8 that graced the Frankfurt showroom floor. This vehicle is a new production concept. It features a more down-to-earth body (i.e. no glass doors) and a fully-functional plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Of course, being that the new BMW model was being tested in the snow, we're going to go ahead and guess that you're wondering how well it performed. We'll just leave it, quite well. What's more impressive than the performance of the BMW i8 are the raw numbers and its efficiency. While pumping out 400 horsepower and sporting a 0-60 sprint of less than five seconds, it still attains an unheard-of 94 mpg combined rating, as well as an electric-only range of 20 miles.
